


In our current situation, what is something positive you have taken out of all of this?Īs coaches, I think we are always trying to get players to control the things they can control.

They are making sure that when they leave this place, it will be better than they found it. I think our guys understand that they will be Weevils forever, and they want to make sure that this is a place that the guys that played before and after them can be proud of. As a coaching staff, we don't have to baby sit and we rarely have to coach their effort or attitude. My favorite thing about our program is that we have gotten to a point that our guys truly take ownership in everything that is going on. What is your favorite thing about your team? And, of course, there is nothing like showing up to work every day and getting to coach a college sport. The people here have been great to me and my family. The connection between the community and the university is special here. What do you enjoy most about working at UAM? And, when that last out was made there was a lot of raw emotion from everyone in the program. In the years prior, we went from not being very good, to knocking on the door a couple of times in the championship game, to finally getting over the hump. The one that probably stands out most is winning that first GAC tournament in 2016. I have been very fortunate to coach a lot of great student athletes who have created some very good memories for me and this program. What was a memorable college coaching experience for you? I was at Henderson State for 8 years before coming to UAM 10 years ago. In 2021, Harvey will begin his 11th season with the Weevils and has 265 wins in the Kelly Green and White. In just 16 seasons coaching, Harvey has a career record of 419-342 (.551), has coached a team to the NCAA Tournament four times and has won four GAC Championships. John Harvey has been the head baseball coach at UAM since 2010 and has been a head coach in college baseball since 2005.
